NixOS belongs to the nix software family.

NixOS is an operating system based on the nix package manager. In NixOS, your system configuration is a nix-expression (a .nix-file). You can take this file to any other NixOS machine and install it there for ease of portability. You can also easily rollback any changes you make to your configuration, in case you broke something. Since the configuration is a simple text file, it can easily be versioned using git or any other version control system.
